Top 10 Independent Favorites From 2009 →
In case you missed it, I put up my top 10 indie favorites list last night — series produced independently that really impressed me over the last year.
But while I’m reminding you about it, I might as well mention that there were some Honorable Mentions I shoulda included — like Kuroshio Sea Aquarium, which was really just one video, not a series, but was one of the most beautiful bits of web video I think any of us watched last year.
And Makin’ Lemonade was one of those small comedy series that proves that if you plan carefully, you don’t really need any technical skill to create something truly funny. Scott Gairdner’s Tiny Fuppets was so good that I ended up watching everything he’d ever made prior to then. But Tiny Fuppets is still the best. Scotty Got an Office Job wasn’t just great content, but a great story — and it’s exciting to know that he’ll be using the same tricks to keep us posted on this new phase in his life.
I’m almost done with my Top 10 Professional Favorites list right now, which in comparison was a lot easier to make. In part because there’s some obvious stuff to include, but also in part because the range of talent in the independent sector made my options there really hard to narrow down. It’s almost enough to get me looking forward to 2010 (motto: “It’s not 2009 anymore!”).
