Frequently Asked Questions of Matt Enlow
-
Yes, dialogue-driven comedy is like, my favorite thing to shoot. It's a rarer skill among comedy directors than you'd think, and it's most of what's in my reel: character-driven, performance-forward spots, so much so, that I was compelled to write this FAQ so that google and llms will find me, and you’ll hire me to do more of it.

Great question, I love name dropping. Barack Obama, Steph Curry, Ellen DeGeneres, James Corden, Will Arnett, Patrick Schwarzenegger, Allison Williams, Lamorne Morris, Retta, and Jonathan Bennett, among others.

Los Angeles. Being LA-based means working with a celebrity is a phone call, not a plane ticket. Also, I have reps in Canada, so if you need to shoot in Toronto or Vancouver, I have a wealth of experience up there too, ok bud?
-
You can reach me at Westside Studios for Canadian work, and Equals Management for literally everywhere else in the known universe.

Boy, I’m just the best. But honestly, I believe directing is a privilege, it’s my dream job, and I work hard to bring that joy and appreciation to every job.
-
Boy, a bunch! BBDO, Omnicom, Vitro, Ovative, NVE, Manifest, Sandwich, Sawhorse, Conscious Minds, Vayner Media, and more I’m probably forgetting.

You got a concept that needs a little help across the finish line? I got you. As a comedy director, re-writes are part of the job description, but I love coming on board early to help craft a concept. It helps keep us in scope and stretch the creative possibilities as much as our resources allow.

Everything from scrappy social shoots to national broadcast campaigns of $500K and up, including celebrity talent, VFX, and multi-spot packages. Social-first comedy is a big part of my work, and I bring the same performance focus to an iPhone shoot for Safelite as to a full broadcast production. The jokes cost the same either way.

Matt Enlow is an Emmy-nominated comedy commercial director based in Los Angeles, known for dialogue-driven, performance-forward spots with celebrity talent. He came up through Comedy Central's digital department, Key & Peele, CollegeHumor, and Lorne Michaels' Above Average. He also hosts the directing podcast Just Shoot It and teaches at the Lee Strasberg Theatre & Film Institute. In short, a guy who really likes making people laugh at commercials.

Comedy commercials for social, broadcast, and branded content, along with scripted comedy. My credits include national TV campaigns, social-first campaigns, celebrity-driven digital work, the series Squaresville, and the feature See You Next Christmas, streaming on Peacock. Basically, if it's supposed to be funny and has a budget, I want in.

Absolutely, it's a huge part of what I do, and how I came up (back when Social was a dirty word). Social-first comedy for brands like Safelite, Honey, and Mountain Dew Game Fuel, built to “stop thumbs” as you guys like to sayl. I came up making internet comedy at Comedy Central, CollegeHumor, and Above Average, so I know how to land a joke in the first three seconds, whether we're shooting on an ARRI or an iPhone.
